We'd like to offer our listeners the chance to "be a part of the show" on The D6 Generation.  We've been doing this since episode 10 and had a great time.  The winners really get into the spirit of it with their 'shout outs'.

If you win a shout out auction, the lead 'character' of that segment will read your name and a brief, one sentence, 'shout out' of your choice.  This can be used to show your support for the show, say hi to friends, talk smack, promote an event, or whatever.   So click the link below to check out how the bidding is going and see if you want in on the action.

We've been boarded by pirates, er privateers!

The D6G team tackles the new board game Grind from Privateer Press.  How exactly do massive steam jacks play sports?  Now we know.

But before that, we chat with friend of the show Norbert about his group's latest charity efforts.  And we finally get around to listening to our voice mail box with some listener feedback.

And don't miss our new regular segment, "Total Fan Girl."  Nicole chats with Sherry Yeary, the president of Privateer Press about her job, and what it's like to be the biggest pirate of the bunch.

Howdy D6G Fans,

We had a bit of a SNAFU in Episode 42 and originally forgot to include the Space Hulk results in the show!

We've corrected this issue and uploaded a corrected version of Episode 42.  The new version was published late on Oct. 27th, 2009.

If you downloaded episode 42 on 10/28/2009 or later, you've got the corrected version of the epsiode.

If you downloaded the show on 10/27 or earlier, simply re-download the episode.  The correct Episode 42 should have a running time of 3:35 minutes.  The Space Hulk results are near the end of the show just after the 3 hr 6 min mark.

Sorry about all that folks.

Thanks for listening,

The D6G Team

Special thanks to listener Bill Roberston who sent in the following details about our rating system and how the re-rolls really stack up.

No, I'm not a math nerd.  I was forced to take statistics in school,
and that included a healthy dose of probability.  The first part of
most probability courses covers the binomial distribution, which tells
you if you try something a bunch of times, what are the odds that 1
try will succeed, or 2 will succeed etc...

My little gamer mind immediately latched on to this, and only this,
part of the course!

For example, if I want to know the chance of a 3+ with a reroll.  I
first start with a google search for binomial calculator.  Next, plug
in 2 tries with a .67 success chance.  Calculate the result and ask it
to tell me the chance of getting 1 or more successes.

So out of curiosity, I used the web calculator to figure out all of
the d6 with a reroll values and ranked them together with the
single-roll odds.  This is the one I used.
http://www.stat.tamu.edu/~west/applets/binomialdemo.html

2++ = 97%
3++ = 89%
2+  = 83%
4++ = 75%
3+  = 67%
5++ = 56%
4+  = 50%
5+  = 34%
6++ = 31%
6+  = 17%

+ = w/o a reroll
++ = with a reroll

I don't use it very much, but its very handy when coming up with house
rules to see what the effect of multiple rolls would be.  Or, if I
feel like a baby, I use it to see how fast animosity will screw my Orc
army as it gets larger.

Cheers!

Short in stature, but big in heart is the theme of Ep. 31 as we review Munchkin & Small World in detail.  Fans have asked how does Munchkin compare to Cutthroat Caverns, so the D6G Team answers this question in particular.  We then dive into Small World, the latest game from Days of Wonder.

All that and our usual 'not too horrible' humor, with features such as:

Episode 30 brings us back to Warmachine. The D6G team has had a chance to play a few games with the Mark II playtest rules and we analyze what the changes are along with what Privateer Press is trying to accomplish.  Are these the kind of things other game companies should do?

But first, our listeners have really stepped up to the plate with some very creative betrayal contest entries.  Join us as we listen along and have a laugh, as well as award some prizes.

Episode 29 is massive. We just had so much to squeeze in.  But if it helps, think of it this way.: The D6 Generation is not a 4 hour show released every two weeks.  It’s really just a two hour weekly show released bi-weekly.   :-)

In this episode we interview Curt Covert, the man behind Smirk and Dagger games and creator of Cutthroat caverns.  Curt gives us a lot of great insight into what it takes to start a game company and some of the pitfalls one should try and avoid.  Later in the show we dive into the details of Cutthroat Caverns and give an in depth review of the game.

All that and our usual 'not too horrible' humor, with features such as:

Episode 28 turned into another mega show while we weren't looking.  We start off with an interview with comic book artist Scott Wegner and talk about how he got into the industry as well as his hit comic series "Atomic Robo."

After Scott we dive into two reviews.  First the western themed card game Bang! and then the Warhammer 40,000 based computer game Dawn of War II.

Here are the links to what we have today:

[Technical Note: There was an audio issue during rapid fire this week.  For the first couple questions you can't hear Raef or Norbert's responses.  This is corrected about half way through Rapid fire.  The rest of the show is fine.  Well, as fine as it normally is. ;-) ]

In episode 27 we interview Dr. Norbert Brunhuber, Warmachine tourney veteran, and get his thoughts on charity gaming.  Specifically the Foodmachine drives.

Later we examine the question "Is Privateer Press jumping the shark?"  New plastic models, a complete reboot of the rules announced with Warmachine Mark II?  Are they heading down a risky path?

Craig is out of town, and we've got crazy holiday and vacation stuff going on all around us, so Episode 23 had to be delayed.

But, we didn't want you to start off the New Year with out at least SOME D6G to listen to, so here's a bonus episode.

This doesn't have all the usual segments of a regualar episode, but we did manage to slip in a little bit of content:

Raef & Russ 'a Ramblin:

- Gamer Tech

- Russ vs the Cable company

- Raef's vid game woes

- How NOT to teach a board game

When Wives Attack

- Nicole and Karen dive into the WWA mail bag and answer some of those tough questions listeners have been sending in.

Episode 23 will be posted in two weeks.  Keep an eye for shout out auctions on Ebay the Monday after this posts.  Thanks for listening!
